GABA (or gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a compound found in nearly all life on earth. Whilst GABA has many roles in the human body, in the brain it functions as a neurotransmitter. GABA modulates brain and central nervous system activity, causing feelings of relaxation and calmness, opening the door to a sense of ease in social situations and all the positive benefits these moments can bring.

GABA Spirits are designed to increase the effectiveness of the calming effects GABA provides. GABA Spirits do not raise your GABA levels, nor do they contain GABA itself as an active ingredient. We do not use GABA as an active ingredient because ingested GABA cannot pass from your bloodstream through what is known as the blood brain barrier (BBB), and then on into your brain. Instead, GABA Spirits contain active ingredients that can pass the BBB and modulate the effectiveness of the GABA naturally produced by your brain.

SENTIA Spirits contain an all-natural “GABA blend” that has two major components. “GABA enhancers,” which increase the effectiveness of your brain’s natural GABA and “bio-enhancers,” which help absorption of GABA enhancers from your gut, into your bloodstream, and then across the blood brain barrier.

Somewhat pricey but enjoyable drink

I find Sentia somewhat pricey but it's a tasty and enjoyable drink without the apparent health downsides of alcohol. Personally I prefer Red over Black. The Amber is not to my taste at all.

Great alcohol alternative

We have loved Sentia during dry Jan and will continue to enjoy it as a way of cutting back on alcohol going forward! We have only used tonic so far but will try more mixers. Love the calming effect!

Black: Tastes like used engine oil - try the Red, instead

Love the Red, but tried the Black - big mistake. Tastes like neat liquorice root blended with used engine oil. I couldn't swallow it and had to spit it out.

Really disappointed. Have asked to exchange / refund it, but can't get a reply.

Have you tried mixing it with your favourite mixer? Black generally goes very well with ginger ale / ginger beer or cola. Unfortunately we did not receive your message asking for an exchange. Sentia red black and yellow

Fantastic drinks I am addicted! Didn't like the black one at first but now it's my favourite one to have each evening x yellow and red I keep for the weekends, yellow being citrus and refreshing and red the velvet way to relax x

Neither functional nor tasteful

The red one must be mixed with something sweet (tonic or ginger ale) for the drink to actually taste like something which in turns gives a sugar rush and defeats the object or relaxing; when mixed with sparkling water it doesn't have a very distinctive taste . Didn't notice any effect either.
The black one tastes like licorice which is alright and yet again needs to be mixed with something like a tonic water or gigger ale for it to taste better.

GABAergic (GABA enhancing) plants are difficult to work with, they are often bitter and unpalatable. We know that the raw flavour of our GABA Blend is not for everyone, which is why we always suggest pairing with a mixer of your choice first. This might seem counter-intuitive, but consider, pure ethanol is very bitter and unpalatable, its why humans brew alcoholic drinks in so many ways. Much like SENTIA Spirits, many alcoholic spirits are an acquired taste. I’m not a fan of the flavour of XXX for example, but it works well in XXX cocktail! We have just launched GABA Gold which has a cistrusy flavour and might be more palatable for some. As for the lack of effect, there could be a number of reasons for this: Individual variances: Your GABA system is very much your own, and individual chemistry varies from person to person, so the experience of SENTIA will vary too. Alcohol in system: Regular alcohol drinkers may have a high tolerance to GABA release, which will moderate the SENTIA experience. Studies suggest that you can reset your tolerance to GABA release by refraining from drinking for 2 to 3 weeks. SSRI’s: (Selective Serotonin Inhibitors) anti-psychotics, tranquillisers and some epileptic medications may inhibit the effects of SENTIA. Expectations: SENTIA is not designed to get you “drunk”, but offer a more refined experience. All feelings are of course very subjective, and will vary from person to person. Context: There is a great deal of scientific evidence indicating that drinking (or talking any mind altering substance) alone creates a very different effect from doing so socially. The science suggests the same will be true with SENTIA.
